Delve Too Deep
A downloadable game for Windows
Delve Too Deep is a tactical dungeon crawler with deep, crunchy card mechanics. Choose from a couple of unlikely adventurers, grab your deck of cards and face down undead hordes and scheming cultists as you push ever deeper into the dungeon below the necromancer's crypt.
The game mixes up the cardplay and deckbuilding from Arkham Horror: The Card Game and the hex-based dungeon-crawling from Gloomhaven, to create a deep and tactical deckbuilder. The focus is on enemy and resource management, with each turn being a puzzle of how best to tackle the current threat with a mix of ranged and melee combat.
There's 3 main types of cards in your deck:
- Actions: Played for immediate effects
- Assets: Played into equipment slots, and can then provide repeatable actions, or passive buffs
- Boosts: Cannot be played, but are instead used to increase your chances of passing skill tests and boost your attacks
Speaking of skill tests - most of your attacks will require a test to succeed, but instead of bine blind luck, you can commit other cards from your hand to boost your skill value and increase your chances of success. Deciding how much to commit to each test will be vital to defeating the dungeons!
Any card with matching symbol(s) on the side can be committed, so it's also a good way to use excess cards in hand or cards you can't afford
This prototype build has 2 characters and 2 levels, which is about 90 minutes of gameplay overall. While it's still lacking some features/tutorialisation, the core mechanics are here and we think the current gameplay is fun enough to start getting feedback on, which is why we're uploading to itch. So please, let us know what you think!
We really want to continue developing this out to a full game, with hundreds of cards, multiple characters and procedurally-generated dungeons, exploring a variety of horror themes.
If you like what you see here, here's how you can help improve the chances of us reaching that goal:

The demo showcases a visually appealing design, with a polished look that catches the eye. However, the overall experience feels tedious and overwhelming, particularly due to the grid-based movement and combat system, reminiscent of games like XCOM or Heroes of Might and Magic. While this style may appeal to some, it didn’t resonate with me personally, as I found it clunky and less engaging.
A significant issue is the lack of clear guidance. The demo throws you in without much explanation, leaving you confused about what to do or how various elements function. This absence of tutorialization makes it hard to grasp the mechanics, which can feel frustrating for players trying to get a sense of the game’s flow.
That said, the demo seems to aim for a more advanced showcase rather than a beginner-friendly introduction, which is a bold choice but risks alienating players who need more direction. With some refinement, like clearer instructions or a more streamlined onboarding process, the experience could be more accessible and enjoyable. Overall, it has potential, but it needs work to feel cohesive and welcoming.
Hey! Thanks for the feedback. There’s absolutely a problem in this build with lack of onboarding. It’s built as a mechanical prototype and, as you picked up on, it’s a test of whether the systems can support the necessary depth for a game like this.
But then I put it public, and before doing that I really should have put more effort into the onboarding and tutorialisation. Lesson learned, I guess!
Anyway, thanks for playing and for taking the time to leave detailed feedback
I've had such a great time playing this game with both characters! The gameplay is really smooth and you quickly learn how to play the game even if you don't have any previous card gaming background.
Thanks! Really glad you enjoyed your time with it
This is a really cool game!! I'm excited for its future! Very Gloomhaven-esque.
Thanks for playing! I’ve had a bit of downtime over the last month, but looking forward to continuing with it soon, so hopefully will have some updates for you!
